Financial Zeitgeist

On the advice of a friend, I watched the online documentary, Zeitgeist, last night. It's a two-hour tour of the structural weaknesses underneath the Federal Reserve system. If spends the first hour describing how our fractional reserve banking system is inherently destructive.

It's a very sober view. It then spends the second hour describing an emerging resource-based economy, one not based on money at all. Such a system is hard for me to get my arms around. It is based on renewable energy (close to my heart), but one where machines do all our work and humans are left to just creative activity. It touts The Venus Project as some sort of framework for solutions coming out of our current economic depression.

Strange stuff to contemplate.

I did notice a great quote from MLK on the Zeitgeist website:

"I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word on reality."
