On Financial Peace

I have found myself watching the financial planning presentations by David Ramsey, as my wife and I have joined some friends in reviewing and setting our financial goals.

Ramsey is a financial prophet. He has created a series of DVD presentations that seek to convince people of the following:
  • You need to get out of debt, completely. This includes your mortgage.
  • You can never rely on outside financing for any purchase, regardless of how big it is. You must rely on sinking funds to do this.
  • You must save for college and save for retirement.
  • You must never pay your children an allowance. Rather, they need to be paid commissions for the chores they perform.
I must admit that I find his talks to be refreshing. Every American should be taught many of these lessons. Sadly, the schools are not providing this education. And most parents have never been educated in financial discipline either.

I am a supporter in spreading his type of financial education. Ramsey's lessons are as impressive to me as Chris Crowley and Harry Lodge's Younger Next Year's lessons were on me last year, which I took to heart.

I am so happy my wife has taken Ramsey's ideas to heart as well. It is refreshing.
