News reports have stated that Mr. Freeman was only able to personally experience 50 or so of the things he listed in his book. Presciently, he once wrote, "This life is a short journey. How can you make sure you fill it with the most fun and that you visit all the coolest places on earth before you pack those bags for the very last time?"
Which leads me to my own question. What things would I like to do before I die?
For starters, this blog is at the top of the list. The sole intent behind this blog is provide my sons, (and any potential grandchildren and following generations) with a sense for who I am and what I was thinking about on any given day. To me, the true beauty of the blogging phenomenon is the remarkable long-term record it will leave for follow-on generations.
Future historians will have a unique plethora of material to mine when they write their versions of today's events. And all of this data will be a quick Google away.
Apart from this blog, I'd have to think a bit about what I'd like to do. A few things come to mind:
- Visit Ireland for an extended stay
- Drive by car through the Rocky Mountains, esp Yellowstone and Yosemite
- Box seats at Fenway Park
- Take my family to Disney World for a week
- Backpack with my sons through the Great Smokies
- Play golf once more at Bass River GC in South Yarmouth, and recline for a minute on the bench near the 9th hole Tee box, which was once enshrined with a plaque honoring my grandfather, Henry Paquin (my second son's namesake). It's a beautiful view of the harbor. Just thinking of that place makes me smile.
I'm sure I'll be adding to this list.
