On Prescription

For the first time in my life, I will be on a prescription drug for the next three months. My doctor discovered after my annual exam that I have elevated cholesterol. My LDL was too low, at 37 (should be over 40) and my HDL was too high at 201 (should be below 200, ideally below 150).

To right this ship, he has put me on a three-month regimen of Niaspan, a naicin vitamin supplement for the next three months. Hopefully this regimen will bring both my HDL and LDL levels within an acceptable range.

Going forward, my doctor advised me that I abstain from too much dairy and red meat meals. I'm to stay off junk food and concentrate on vegetables and high fiber breads (no white bread).

Fortunately, beer is not a problem.

Interesting question my five-year-old son asked me the other day. While he was practicing his numbers, he was writing them out on a chalkboard when he asked: "Dad, what is the last number?"
